About this timeroll
For Hiroo Onoda, the war continued long after the rest of the world had moved on. Adapted from Werner Herzog’s novel, The Twilight World follows the soldier’s years in the Philippine jungle, where duty and isolation shape an increasingly separate reality.
Herzog’s first animated feature brings this story into a medium suited to its shifting boundaries between lived experience, memory and dreams. Psyop and Sun Creature Studio are developing the film, with Herzog also set to narrate. A 2028 release has been reported as the target; a premiere date and distribution plans remain unconfirmed
Organized by Werner Herzog
